Our School

Our Mission

At South Fellowship Early Learning Center our mission is to serve families in our community by providing loving and enriching child care in a nurturing safe Christian environment which promotes the child’s growth socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and spiritually.

Meet Needs

To help meet the needs of working and non‑working parents who desire to expose their children to quality educational and social experiences.

Offer Quality Care

To provide child care at a reasonable cost, so that parents who must work have a top‑notch place for the growth and enrichment of their children.

Safe & Nurturing

To provide a safe and nurturing environment for young children.

Our Values

South Fellowship Early Learning Center is owned and operated by South Fellowship Church as a service and outreach to the Littleton and South Denver Metropolitan area.

We value people.

Each child in our care is seen as wonderful and unique. We desire to support and encourage him or her in all areas of development by providing an environment which promotes warm, nurturing interactions with caregivers and lots of opportunities for learning.

We realize that parents are the most significant people in a young child’s life. We also know that parenting is a tough job. We desire to support you in this adventure called “parenting” by providing you with peace of mind—that your child is receiving wonderful care and love while he or she is away from you. We also want to support parents by offering information about children’s development and activities available in the area.

We also realize that South Fellowship Early Learning Center provides quality care because of our great staff. Our staff are people who love children and are dedicated to providing them with exceptional care. All of our group leaders meet or exceed Colorado’s State  requirements. All of our staff have current CPR and First Aid training. We also provide them with training opportunities and resources so they can learn more about the children they care for.

Three children planting a gardenWe value learning.

Research clearly shows that a child’s early years are very important for brain development. Every classroom and the activities carried out in them are designed to enhance each child’s unique development through age-appropriate, hands-on learning. We also desire to support and encourage each child’s growth in all areas of development: cognitive, social, physical, and spiritual. Studies show that children better retain what they have learned when the activities they are engaged in are meaningful to them. Through their experiences at South Fellowship ELC we desire for the children to enjoy learning, ultimately becoming life-long learners.

We value a safe, child-oriented environment.

We want our classrooms to be visually inviting to children—a place that beckons “come, explore me.” Shelves are full of age-appropriate educational activities.  The day is structured in a way that fulfills children’s need for routine while still allowing for plenty of time to play and experiment on their own.

We disinfect toys on a daily basis (more frequently in the Infant room) to prevent the spread of germs. Our teachers are diligent in washing their hands, as well as having the children wash their hands frequently throughout the day. Our building is protected by a security system which allows access to families by using their individual security code. We value a safe and healthy environment for our families and staff.

At South Fellowship ELC, we believe it is important to spend time in The Word. Each classroom has a children’s Bible and children participate in a variety of Bible songs and finger-plays exposing the kids to Bible verses and stories.

Our Curriculum

Creative Curriculum

Helping children develop strong social-emotional and academic skills are school-wide goals for all children at South Fellowship Early Learning Center. Our research-based curriculum, Creative Curriculum, acts as a framework for providing stimulating, developmentally appropriate learning experiences and skill development in literacy, math, science, technology, social studies and art. Creative Curriculum features exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

Creative Curriculum for Preschool is based on 38 objectives for development and learning. These objectives cover all areas of child development, are fully aligned with Littleton Public Schools and Colorado State Early Learning Standards, and integrated into each of the comprehensive collection of resources that makes up the Curriculum.

The Creative Curriculum studies:

  • Allow children to explore science and social studies topics while developing skills in language and literacy, math, technology, and the arts
  • Let children apply their acquired skills in meaningful, real-life contexts
  • Encourage higher-level thinking, development of intellectual interests, and positive approaches to learning
  • Give children the necessary skills to solve problems and find answers to their questions in a creative way
  • Support the development of social-emotional skills such as resolving conflict, sharing responsibilities and working collaboratively
  • Encourage family involvement

Zoo-Phonics®

Zoo-Phonics® is our language arts curriculum.  The bulk of the program is experienced by our Preschool and Pre-K students but even Waddlers and Tiny Tots participate in daily activities related to the program!

  • The principle of Zoo-phonics® maximizes understanding, memory, utilization and transference to all areas of the reading, spelling and writing process in a playful and concrete manner.
  • Zoo-phonics® is a method developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching)—a whole-brain approach. Students actually learn the sounds of the alphabet and advanced phonemic concepts through an easily understood, concrete method of presentation.
  • Zoo-phonics® uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters for ease in memory. A related body movement is given for each letter. This concrete approach cements the sounds to the shapes of the letters. Lowercase letters and their sounds are taught first (since they are needed 95% of the time in text), capital letters and letter names are taught later.

Arapahoe Libraries

Arapahoe County Libraries

Once a month a librarian from Arapahoe County Libraries visits the ELC and has story time with our Early Preschool, Preschool, and Pre-K classes.  The Library also maintains six library book bags that children from South Fellowship ELC are welcome to check out and bring home to enjoy with their families.

Health & Safety

We strive to have a safe and child-friendly environment at South Fellowship ELC.  Below is a list of procedures that help to protect the health and safety of our children and staff.

  • A secure, fingerprint system and keypad door entry ensures only authorized pick-up personnel have access to the building.
  • Classrooms also require a code to gain access that only parents and authorized personnel know.
  • All gates and doors are monitored, supervised, or locked to keep your child safe.
  • Teachers and staff are constantly monitoring and accounting for the children in their classroom.
  • Our facility is designed with large, main hall windows in every room. These windows allow for clear visibility throughout the center for enhanced safety and security.
  • All rooms have access to two exits in the event of a fire or safety problem. The children participate in and practice regular fire drills. In the event of a tornado warning, the children are instructed to move to the designated safe zone.
  • Smoking is not permitted on the ELC premise to protect all children from secondhand smoke.
  • We disinfect toys on a daily basis to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Our teachers are diligent in washing their hands, as well as having the children wash their hands frequently throughout the day.
  • All of our staff have current CPR and First Aid training.
  • All staff working with infants 12 months or younger complete an annual “safe sleep” training.
  • Infants wear a sleep sack for naptime and are always placed on their backs to sleep. Regular sleep checks occur.
  • Every child enrolled at the center must complete an annual physical using our Health Appraisal Form, as well as provide up-to-date immunization records to be kept on file.
  • Monthly nurse consultations throughout the year to keep up with current health trends.
  • We require that children be free of illness symptoms for 24 hours before returning to our Center, per Colorado state law.
